In addition to the FX format (Full-frame) D3 Nikon has also announced the new DX format D300 which also features a 12 megapixel CMOS sensor, 14-bit A/D conversion, EXPEED image processor, sensitivity up to ISO 6400 (with boost), the new CAM3500DX AF sensor (51 point), HDMI video output, UDMA CF support and last but not least the super-impressive 3.0" 922,000 pixel LCD monitor with Live View. No ordinary Live View either as this one supports Auto Focus in two ways; using the current 'normal' mirror-drop / mirror-raise but also contrast detect in the same way as a compact camera (although slower). The D300 will be available in November, no word on price yet.

From DPReview : More...

This will upset a few people that have just bought d200s! sounds like a crackin camera though

Ooohhh looks nice :D Might have to break the bank, or rob one

I had a play with a D200 and was seriously impressed. This looks like it's almost (arguably is) competing with my 1D MkII. If it wasn't for the investment in the glass already.........

More like February ..... :(

Typical UK gets stuffed on the prices though, I feel a trip to the USA coming on!

My brother lives there..... might be able to do you a deal ;)
Might look at it myself although it would break my heart to sell all my canon gear.

this camera looks special.

Full frame is where it's at. Nikon's line on "No, we aren't going FF" is utter BS. It's one of the reasons 30% ish of what I do is on an F80, at the moment I'm only using the D200 for work that just needs that digital workflow.

This camera is going to be a serious consideration for me. I guess I need to read a bunch more and decide whether to sell my D200 now while the prices are still reasonable, or wait for the D300 to come into regular circulation and drop its own price.

edit : hmmm I am going to New York in March. Save me a few pennies?

How much do kidneys go for these days? I've got one going spare...............

I didn't think you'd be intersted in this Hoodi seeing as it's not FF.

Just a note guys, I am moving to Canada in November so would be more than willing to send these your way. They are generally cheaper over there. Obviously import duties remain buyers responsability. Ill keep you updated. :)

Yeah I totally misread the specs and am now completely uninterested in it

D3 is out of my price range, so roll on the D4 and D3 price reductions! :bonk:

Great stuff, but my d200s (well the one I have and the one I very almost have) do me well :) Probably go d2x next year, I only need so much technological advancement :)

But it would be nice to upgrade all the time though! What I'm trying to say is the gear we have is good enough for what we do, but of course things can change if it makes the results even better and the work more efficient.

That was being sensible..... I dunno, just no ambition! :bang:

I have ambition and yes I'd love two new d300's or d3's. Personally I think it's great news from Nikon this week!! Don't get me wrong :)

Sorry, was just being a trifle flippant...... we're in the same boat! Two D200's with the desire (lust, passion) last week to change these for D2Xs ..... Ha ha! Like we're made of money....

If the camera lives up to the spec it'll be some beast.

Would love the D3 of course, but (being realistic) a D300 would certainly be all I need. Must start saving

:nikon::nikon::nikon:

51 Point AF would sell it to me, let alone the 3" Live veiw LCD!

My D200 is serving me well though, so no rush to swop over to this yet...

I don't think the D200 will drop too much in price, as the D300 is ALOT more expensive, different league in price range altogether.

A few of the preview articles I've read state that Nikon will continue to sell the D200, alongside the D300. The D300 is going to go for about £1,299 at launch by the sound of it, which is about what the D200 cost when it was released.

The D300 looks to be like being top of my wish list for quite sometime as my financial controller, you know, she who must be obeyed says its just another camera, JUST ANOTHER CAMERA !! Well what can you say to that? I know what I’d like to say ####### Get thee behind me Satan.
By the way I got the October Practical Photography today and the price war begins RGB Technology Nikon D300 body only £1099.99.
