All,

I am considering picking up a used D300, with grip etc. for a back up sports camera, alongside my D7200 and Canon 1dMkIII.

Anyway - I am looking at CF cards and I wondered which would be fastest or if the bus speed is a limiting factor at some point? The reason I ask, is the gold sandisk 32gb cards are reasonable and the black are very expensive! Just wondering whether I would benefit from the black?

Thanks,
Chris

Just to give some idea which may be helpful

this lot would work out at around £400 which should cover it.
Te above gives a faster FPS but the buffer stop would be the same.

Honestly, I'm not sure on the speed thing but just to mention, I think I'm right in saying that D300 14 bit lossless raws are only about 15mb. Even a 8gb card is good for 500 images.

The D300 is not really what I would call a "sports" camera in RAW, unless snail racing is classified as a sport. It depends if your looking for a machine gun type of camera, then this is definately not that, but it is good at what it does.

Thank you gents.

Ideally, I would like a D3, but even a ropey one is just shy of £400 which is pretty spicy for a camera that I intend to use with a 300mm on the front and my colleague and dash it around. If I could stretch to a D3, and I am very tempted to :D, then that would be the main camera.

I tried a D700 with grip and battery and that seemed fast enough.

I am mindful of how expensive the battery and cover are though!
