Just posted! Our detailed hands-on preview of the Nikon D300 digital SLR. Our preview covers the design of the camera, control layout, operation use, displays and menus. Also included is a closer look at the D300 implementation of live view including videos of it in use. We've also explored HDMI output and included a couple of 720p video clips to give you an idea of how high definition may change the way we use video output on digital cameras.

All looks like it'll be very easy to get used to if you've got a D200. So a couple of left side buttons have moved around and maybe a couple of extra menu items to accomodate extra features, but that's about it for ergonomic changes.

A very good thing in my opinion because I find the D200 already pretty close to perfection in terms of ergonomics.

What I really like to see are sample photographs though, besides the occasional pirate one where you don't really know if it's legit, or whether it's from a production model.

Shame i won't be able to afford one, i would love one of these. May have to try and pick up a cheap D200 or D80 instead

How many focus points?!? Looks like a very very nice camera (have been looking at the D3 too ) Looks like Nikon have finally become fed up of being labelled with the high noise factor, etc & have made some massive steps to make Canon sweat a bit.

51 AF points, although they're concentrated towards the centre a bit much for my taste. Reports I've read suggest that the new AF system works exceptionally well. It's the same on both the D3 and D300.

I think they are reasonably well spaced on the D300, its the D3 that's going to suffer here as the AF points are in the same place as on the D300....

I've got to agree with you on that one, there are many times when I wish the AF points were nearer the edge on the D200.

On saying that I have just read the whole review of the D300 and it does look good.
