Yes
I just bought a D3 and was told that it had 10000 acuations.
Someone told me that the camera can only take 150000 shots and then it needs changed.
Should I be worried about this.
I am only trying to use it when I need to shot something,so I do ware it out.
I can take from 500 to 2000 pics per week depending on how much work I have on.

The d700 has a 150,000 shutter count, the d3 has a 300,000 shutter count. I wouldnt be too worried about it, 300,000 is a huge amount of photo's even if you are shooting often, i certainly wouldnt limit my style because of it.

The shutter count is just Nikons estimate of how long they reckon it will last. Some will fail before this, some will go on, and on, and on....

10k actuations is nothing on a modern DSLR, you shouldn't have any trouble with it, just consider it gently run in :)

I wonder how much a shutter mechanism replacement is for a D3? As said above, a D3 should run up a HUGE shutter count without any trouble.

The shutter mechanism is a comparatively cheap replacement, so *if* you ever did need to replace it then it wouldn't be too painful. As Jayst says, you'll most likely have replaced it by then anyway or be using it as a second body.

My D80 has just gone past 30,000.
Think it's rated at 50,000.
A D3 with 50k wouldn't bother me in the slightest, 10k on a D3 is brand new in my book :D

Use it, and forget about the shutter count. If it breaks, it breaks. These are serious tools, and are designed to work as and when required. I would not worry too much about damaging it / wearing it out. If you can afford a D3 and fast glass, you can afford the repair bill!!! :D

Gary.

D3 and fast glass = poor man
Just being stupid....
I will use it as the tool it was intended too.
Although it is a bit heavier than my d50 which is my only complaint.
And it takes up massive amount of space in my hard drive.

Although I can forgive it as it takes a brillant picture and has all the buttons on fly...
Bloody brillant camera....
