In the middle of a busy shoot in Germany, my main D3 packed up displaying 'err'. Shutter clicks, but the file is black. Less than 70k shutters, not too impressed - thank god I have backups! Anyone experienced similar, and am I likely to get any assitance from Nikon as goodwill?... Shouldn't really happen on a low count professional body.

The "ERR" usually means an internal failure of some type most likely a shutter failure. It is the error commonly got when the shutter fails, change battery, cards, lens and if it is still the same it sounds like you need to get in touch with Nikon for a shutter replacement.

Ouch. No such thing as a good time, but this is particularly bad as I have a very big job in Wales this week. Guess I'll be in the classifieds hoping to pickup a cheap D700/D3/D4 as cover until this is sorted!

I've had the Err a few times on my D800e - usually when I'm taking a picture & the batt go's flat.

This seems to leave the shutter in a 'non responsive' state...

Shutter doesn't click or do anything.

The way I've found to get around it is to change batt, put it into MUP & take a shot.
This seems to get it working normally...

Maybe worth trying a firmware reinstall...nothing to lose.

I had that last time on my D300, somehow i've unlock the aperture ring lock and i turn the ring by accident.
