Been looking at one of these to partner my D700 as i simply cant find another good used D700 at the moment.

If you have a D2Xs please tell me what you think of it and is there anything i should be looking for when buying?

I cant quote on the D2Xs but I can on the D2X and that is a bit of allright kit, it is just a fantastic camera but lacks in the iso stakes apart from this its a good un

It IS without doubt the finest camera I've EVER owned - I bought my D2Xs for Wedding work, but now use a D300 instead as it gives me better high ISO by miles

For anything NOT needing ISO 800+ I ALWAYS use my D2Xs though as it is undoubtedly still the better camera - just considering selling it too to fund another D300 - why? Cos I do Weddings not landscapes, so the D2Xs hasn't been used much at all for 2 years - it just sits in my bag making me feel guilty :(

If you are serious about having one, then mine's about 31,000 shutter counts (Sod all for this camera) and in excellent condition - pm me for details :)

I had a D2x for a long time (recently sold) I only got rid of mine as i needed better ISO performance

Top camera

I have two for magazine work and the only time I'm left wanting by either is when I need really high ISOs like 3200. Up to 1000 it's fine and handling is fantastic. The build quality was one of the major draws for me, especially for £650.... Don't think there's another camer as good in that respect for the money aside from maybe a 1D mk2

used one for years, i dont think its a good second body for a d700.
tried it and just ended up buying another d700.

the 2 camera work totally different eg iso, auto focus and lens reach

also remember dx lenses dont work well on fx sensors.

buy another d700, one will turn up

good luck

Liam. You know you gotta wait for another D700. Patience mate !

I had one for a few years.

Noise noise noise.

Even noisy clouds on a gray day.

Bugged the hell out of me. Much prefer D300/D700.

Thanks for the offer, just when i had given up finding a D700 i could afford someone answered my wanted ad with one.

Thing is, if you want like-for-like then you have compare apples with apples. A D700 is a totally different camera to a D2. The former is FF and displays amazing noise handling and high ISO capabilities, whereas the D2' is a gripped pro-style body that's a brilliant DX-format camera. If Nikon had continued to run thus side of it's pro range it would have probably been my photographic wet dream - imagine a poster version of a D300s in that brilliant body... But they didn't so I'll have to save pennies for a D3 :)

You obviously want a D700 and although the D2 is great (IMO) do you want to shortchange yourself by having two vastly different bodies for the same task?

Thanks for the input and advice folks, much appreciated.
After just about giving up on another used D700, Martin kindly offered me his through my wanted ad.
I still have my 18-200 VR MKII lens that is why i considered the D2 as i could have just used that with it, however i now have 2x FX bodies so i guess i will trade this for something more suitable soon.
Which will bring me to my next thread lol.
