I came this morning to use my d200 for the first time in about 2 weeks or so, when i put the lens on (a nifty 50) all the camera would do is display r25 on the top screen.

I'm aware that r25 is something to do with the buffer on the camera, more worryingly the screen wont come on and non of the other buttons seem to work.

I've tried pressing everything and turning it on and off again but no joy still getting the r25 message and the lens doesn't attempt to focus or anything.

Any suggestions or has it gone to silicon heaven?

The [r25] on the top screen is just the number of continuous shots that can be taken before the buffer fills up, page 27 in the D200 manual shows this. I think there is a setting to switch this to display ISO instead (could be wrong on that).

Are you sure the battery isn't flat as Steve suggested? If the battery is charged I would try removing it for a few minutes and trying again.

Fully charge the battery and then start from there. :)

i found my previous Nikon camera the D200 was very heavy on the battery which is one of the reasons I upgraded to the D300.

Looks like it was an issue with the battery, i was using a 3rd party one and it was registering as full. Took it out popped in an official nikon one and all is well again
