Yes
I am thinking of obtaining an additional body and have been brooding over either the D200 or the S5 Pro.

I have been reading all the reviews and the D200 looks to be the better camera on spec, however everyone raves about the dynamic range of the S5 Pro.

I was wondering if any of the intrepid TP'ers have been down this road of bemused pondering and head scratching.....:bonk::thinking::baby:

If so could you please impart you wisdom and findings to me with all haste before I make the wrong choice (Or what might be the wrong choice.....) as I am drawn to the S5 Pro...

Head Thumpingly confused....:runaway:

The S5 is a terribly slow camera shot to shot - so it depends on what you want to do with it. The general rule is that if you are doing weddings or portrait then the S5 is your cam due to the better dynamic range.

Otherwaise, it's the D200.

Another thing- there is limited support for the Fuji raw format with third party applications.

Trusted Reviews.com - think you will find the answer your looking for here!

Verdict
The Fujifilm S5 Pro continues in its predecessors’ tradition of providing superior dynamic range and tonal quality for specialist portrait and wedding photographers, who will be delighted with its outstanding capabilities in these areas, as well as its superb handling, build quality and performance. It’s not really an ideal camera for the general consumer though, so if you’re looking for a similarly-priced general-purpose DSLR you’d be better off buying the Nikon D200 instead.

I do some portraits but very rarely in a studio environment, the bulk of my photography is wildlife and landscape... So I think the question has been answered....

Many thanks for the info and link Barney and Stevie.

(Off to read that review as I missed that one..)

True - but you can pick up lightly used D200s for around £400 if price really is an issue.

I was always intruiged by the S5, but the drawbacks for me were too high. Having to change my whole workflow was a huge one for me.

Fuji S5 Pro by a country mile - it obliterates the D200 on image quality. The D200 is faster, but a fast camera that delivers poorer image quality is the weaker choice IMHO.

I shot with an S5 Pro / D200 pair for 3 months, then sold my D200 in August 2007 and picked up a 2nd S5 Pro. No regrets. I shoot mainly nature and landscape:
