Hello all I have two quite old Nikon D1x cameras and a plethora of AF lenses to match. I'm pondering wether or not to replace said cameras as they are a little old but would seem sensible to reuse lenses if possible. What are people's thoughts on this old camera vs newer ones. Not looking to spend similar money as they originally cost. Thanks

What lenses you got already? If you want something similar size and feel. Used D3 or D3s is reasonable price.
Well "reusing your existing lenses" is completely possible. Depending exactly which lenses you have they will work on all current Nikon cameras with a few limitations.
As for what body will suit you ... the D1x bodies you have were from Nikon's professional line - the direct replacement for them would be the D5, though older cameras (second hand) from the same range (D3, D2). However you say you don't want to spend anything like as much ... so looking lower down the range would be suitable and (in most criteria) any of the current Nikons would outperform your old D1x.
What kind of things do you photograph? Assuming a wide range of subjects and that you are an "enthusiast" rather than professional, I would suggest you look at the current D7200 as a crop-sensor camera or the D750 as a full frame camera. Both feature good (if not the best) autofocus, good auto exposure and a wide exposure latitude for late processing. A lot is down to what you photograph which would be the better option.
- If you have any DX lenses then they will only work on DX (crop frame) cameras (the D3x00, D5x00, D7x00 and D500 cameras).
- If you have lenses without integrated motors (non AF-S lenses) then you can only autofocus with the D7x00 and above bodies.
