Nikon Camera for gig photography?

Guys, lets calm down and talk about the thread instead.

If you like flash then stick with flash and vice visa if you don't want to use it then then use it. All personal preference at the end of the day.

Lol it wasn't a rant, was an understanding.

There is no need for it to be bought back up that's not how we are on here.

We kiss and make up lol.

Hmm, not so sure about the kiss bit.. maybe a manly handshake.

@duttytd ok, fair enough. I probably misinterpreted what you meant. Sorry!
I'm a first year studying a foundation degree, hence asking for the tips :)

That's ok. Well you have come to the right place for tips.

As your still learning id never rule out any equipment until you have fully understood it and had a good go. You may surprise yourself as Tbh i have done this a few time.

Good luck with your course and get a flick account to host all your photos.

Hope to see some more of your work in the future.

Tony

Cheers, means a lot to me :)
Yeah, I'll keep that in mind!
Need to go out and get more shots so I'm super excited for this gig, going to try all the different possible shots and see what happens :D

To duttyd - I'm a bass player in a band (and a photographer).

If a tog kept blitzing me in the face with flash while performing, I would probably insert

my entire bass somewhere even your flash wouldn't reach :D

For me, when I get a chance to shoot bands on stage, I ask them first but never use flash.

Anything backstage is a different matter :)

Flash sometimes has to be used. I shot a Ghostpoet last week. 6400 gave me this

Note this is B&W to pump exposure

With flash managed to get something usable.

If you need it and the artist allows it, plus you know how to use it flash is perfectly acceptable. There is an elitist thing to the "never use flash". Sometimes you need to, sometimes you can, so do it. Having said that, very very very few gigs can you get away with flash. Security threatened to confiscate my flash from my bag at Kaiser Chiefs because it said no flash on the details. Luckily a security guard I know saved me the hassle of arguing why I was not going to give it to them.
