Looking to find a way to display images on my mac as I shoot (use Nikon bodies). Don't need to control the camera from the mac, just want them to display as I shoot.
Is Camera Control Pro 2 the best way of doing this? Its quite pricey and don't need most of the features, I just want them to display via a cable connection

I use aperture and I know you can do this with it. Don't know if its any cheaper than your idea though.

Doesn't Lightroom do what you need? Like this:

Edit: That is a fairly old page, I have Lightroom 3 and have displayed images from my Nikon directly, without any further software requirement.

Alternatively you could pick up a cheap/2nd-hand LCD TV and use the AV cable to display the camera's LCD image. Or pick up a 42" LCD TV and do chimping on a grand scale. You'd still need to transfer the images later, but if it's just for the client to see as the shoot progresses, it needn't be via your Mac.

Or connect via av cable to a portable dvd player to view photos.

Lightroom works well tethered.
