nikon ap question

Hi may seem a daft question but when I switch to ap mode on my d90 should the f number be set correctly as a starting poinjt or does it go to the last f number used. And secondly what happens to the exposure compensation ,does this adjust itself..thanks and sorry if the question is daft

In aperture priority you set the f stop and the camera works out the shutter speed. Exposure compensation is not directly affected - you dial this in separately, I may be wrong but I think the exposure compensation will alter the shutter speed if in ap.

The f stop will start at what you last had it on, using the front dial to alter the f stop.
