hi
I have some xmas money and as usual I have an urge to spend it on a new lens. I've been thinking about the Nikon 16-85 to go with my D7000. It gets good reviews and looks like it will last well.

I'd use it when walking about whilst on holiday and also to try my hand at landscape. Its £369 after £50 cashback from Amazon which seems a good price for a UK model.

Shall I?

I've got one on my D300 and it hardly comes off, it's as good as the 18-70 but the 16-85 has VR which reflects in the price but if you want to save money you can get the 18-70 for about £100

I had one on my D90 and I loved the quality and very useful range, only sold it when moving all gear to full frame. Very highly reviewed and they can be bought quite reasonably.

I've just upgraded to a D7000 from D3100 and have been looking at this lens as a replacement/upgrade to my 18-55 kit.

369 seems a good price considering 2nd hand examples are going for 300+ on ebay.

Possibly going to order one this week as my D3100 and 18-55 will be going up for sale.

Very lovely lens, sharp and the VR works well. Only sold mine because I upgraded to the F2.8 lenses.

If only it was 12-85mm I would have lived with mine happily forever...
Very good lens, much less distortion than the 18-70mm.

Sold my 16-85 to a buddy with a D5100 and it looks like a perfect fit.

Silure... I've ordered mine from Amazon today. I don't think you'll ever get a brand new UK model at that price any time soon.

Cash back offer ends 21st Jan I think.

Good to see all the good comments about this, I think I may seriously look at this as well!

I thought the 16-85 was a good all rounder when I had it ... FYI an f4 version is rumored to be coming out although no idea when.

I know someone who recently got an 16-85mm VR for their D7000 to replace the 18-55mm kit lens, and he's found it a huge improvement. Never having had a 18-55mm I didn't know whether he would see the difference, but he loves it.

I've had 2x 16-85mm VR lenses, and find it to be a great lens, and suits me 90% of the time. It has quality and versatility over the kit lenses imho.

I'm looking forward to receiving mine even more after all this positive response! According to UPS it'll be here tomorrow! :-)

Just need to make sure I put the time aside to get out more often that I have over the last few months.

I have this lens and find it a great walkabout/all round lens and weight wise is well balanced on a D300/7000. I find it's wide enough for landscape and also with it at 85mm can make an ok portrait lens. Only let down I feel is the aperture shame it's not fixed at something like f/4

Of the people that ordered this lens, what have been you thoughts on it?

I bought mine offf a fellow member and have been very pleased with it, feels solid and well built compared to the kit lenses, and the results are excellent.

My ebay special has turned up today, and first impressions are that it has a really fast focusing motor. Slightly odd having the focus adjustment ring towards the camera body end, but I'm sure it's something I'll get used to.
