Strange, the main Argos website has these listed for £529.99. Perhaps they are having a clear out as they weren't selling many at that price.

I've been thinking about one of these for a while, so I have gone and ordered one.

Went on there yesterday when I saw this post and 7 had been sold, now its up to 49, going fast, there are 48 left

Argh, that's really tempting. Can some one talk me out of buying one, please?! :bonk:

It's a lot money, you don't need it, the wife / partner/ whatever will moan about........ Not going to stop you is it :)

Strange that they come with an Argos warranty and not a Nikon one......:suspect:

I'm sure it's both. I think the law states that the retailer is responsible for any issues within the first year or so anyway.

They seemed to be selling fast and I was looking out for a telephoto lens too. Well, that's my excuses for buying one.. I'm looking forward to playing with it, although I'm sure I'll regret it when I see my credit card bill :)

Word of warning to anyone thinking of buy from Argos on ebay. I've just found out they use Yodel (aka Home Delivery Network). I stupidly didn't check first and Yodel don't deliver to my address. I'm going to have to spend quite a while chasing it up now if past experience is anything to go by. :bang:

Mine arrived today. I can confirm that it is brand new and came with a Nikon warranty card.

Looking at the purchase history on Ebay some people have been buying 10 of these at a time, expect these to be appearing on Ebay again soon for a quick profit.

Very few couriers deliver on a Saturday without payment of a (hefty) surcharge.

Yodel is the new name for HDNL, so if you get it on Monday you'll be doing well

Must be a Yodel thing Graham as ive had loads of deliveries on a Saturday from various companies, oh well, guess will have to wait until monday now, it better arrive then, will ring first thing monday and if not I will go in and pick it up myself :)

I placed my order on Wednesday evening and I picked it up on Friday afternoon after missing the delivery in the morning, so hopefully you should get yours on Monday Ade. I ended up collecting it from the local delivery agent in Wickford rather than having to go all the way to Chelmsford.

Cannot believe that one person bought 22 of these - I mean they are £350 on amazon, is it really worth the outlay of £6,600 to maybe make a couple of hundred quid; you will not be able to sell for same price as amazon - will need to be less IMO.

Well mine arrived about 10 minutes ago, def brand spanking new, downside im gobsmacked that they are just sent in the original Nikon box inside a one of those plastic courier bags, my box had been really bashed around which pi**es me right off, all seems fine inside but would really expect it to be double boxed with a small bit of bubble wrap at the very least

I'm expecting to pick mine up tomorrow. I'm a little horrified that they've put it straight into a plastic courier bag though. I'll definitely be complaining if mine turns up like that.

As the Nikon 70-200 f2.8 is a couple of years away I bought one as a 'stop gap'.

All gone now, all 95 of them

I've never had a Saturday delivery, from UPS, Fedex, DHL, HDNL or even Parceforce and anytime I've requested a Saturday delivery when shipping an item it's cost me a fair chunk extra...

Mine arrived today, thanks to a friend who was able to pick it up from HDNL's depot.

However, like others, Argos had simply put the Nikon box into a plastic courier bag. I've given it a very quick test and it seems to work fine. Although, I've noticed the auto-focus is quite noisy. Is that normal or because I was shooting in low light?

I'll need to get out and test it properly sometime soon :)

Good service, rubbish packaging!
Mine arrived today in the polybag but the packaging inside the box is pretty robust!

Can I ask a question of those who have this lens, if you hold the lens and shake it a little, I dont mean violently, just from side to side do you get a bit of a rattle, like the internal glass/focussing element is moving slightly, is this normal

Are you sure its not the inner extension tube knocking against the outside casing? There has to be a bit of slackness to allow the lens to extend. So yes I would say its normal, just tried mine and it does the same but never ever had any problems with it over the years. Just checked my 24-70mm telephoto lens and its not so pronounced but then it is a far more expensive bit of kit with better weather sealing.

Hmm maybe not so much of a rattle as a dull knocking sound, just like something is moving from side to side inside, google shows up lots of people with this, everyone seems to think its the VR, Hmm now I dont know whether to be concerned or not Arghhhhhhhhhhh

No Adrian I don't get any "knocking" with that lens just normal expected movement . If its still within the warrantee period I would take it back and ask for an exchange unit.

You could always contact Nikon they are very helpful . Don't forget to quote lens serial number as it may be a batch issue

Link with tele no

now youve just confused me :) didnt u just say you did get some knocking (or expected movement)

Maybe I mislead a bit sorry every lens that extends to increase alter the mm length must allow some movement so the inner part moves freely. I don't get a "knocking" with mine just the normal freedom movement which is to be expected.

Not knowing how bad the "Knocking " is I can't judge if its acceptable or not.
If it as you said its sounding as if a part is loose inside the lens then I would contact Nikon via the link to see what they say. Nikon would, being the manufactures, give you a definate thumbs up or down which ever the case may be.

Hopefully that explains a bit better

Pity we arn't closer together to do a comparison test.

My old one did that, it's just the VR group moving around.

Thanks John, had read that the VR was supposed to lock itself once switched off, god knows, I maybe getting myself wound up about nothing, its just a bit disconcerting once you first hear it, the Lens works perfectly, possibly im just being paranoid, ive only had it 4 days

Just asked elsewhere as well and consensus seems to be its the VR Mechanism that makes the noise, hopefully ive put my own mind at rest now :)
