Nikon has announced a pair of new professional AF-S lenses, first comes the AF-S 14-24 mm F2.8G ED which promises to offer a huge field of view on the new FX format D3 digital SLR. The lens is made up of fourteen elements in eleven groups, two of which are ED glass, three aspherical. There's also a "Nano Crystal Coat" which features in all the lenses announced today, it's designed to cut down internal reflection within the lens which can be a particular problem with the reflective surface of a digital SLR sensor. Next is the AF-S 24-70 mm F2.8G ED a new slimline (by F2.8 lens standards) lens which will provide wide to just beyond standard field of view on the D3. Both lenses will be available this November, no pricing yet.

Well, as I said earlier in the week....... there's not much point Nikon producing a full-frame dSLR unless they re-introduce a new Pro-spec standard zoom!

I should be employed by someone!

HeHe ... the Darkside is certainly keeping the Admin busy this morning ...

Wow, they have the same nano-crystal coating as the 105 VR.

These are going to be sharp lenses.

Looking forward to winning the lottery.

Bjørn Rørslett has just put up a review of the new 24-70 on his site. He likes it a lot.

Last week after waiting for almost six weeks I received my AF-S 14-24 mm F2.8G ED. After many years of using various Nikon lenses this is the first lens that does not have a smooth action when turning the zoom ring over it's full range. Unfortunately I had to drive over 50 miles to collect it and did not think of trying it at the point of purchase. I did contact my supplier about my concerns and they were unable to confirm if this stiffness was correct or not. He has now other lens to check against, and possible will not have any more for several weeks. Has and member of this form purchase one of these lenses? If so can you help with your experience. The lens is smooth between 24-27mm, and between about 48-52mm. All other areas are considerable stiffer. This does not seem correct to me.
