Anyone using one of these? I've seen it at £88.43 and I'm tempted but I've seen slightly mixed reviews. Would be using it on a D40.

It is very good, but would only work in manual focus mode on a d40

Yep - it's a fantastic lens for the money - really sharp. But manual focus only on the D40 like bemcsa says. I don't like the focusing ring - it feels a bit vague which is a real shame. Others don't have the same problem - maybe it's my shaky hands! It's probably worth the risk as you can always sell it on without losing very much.

Works a treat on my new D300 ***!!

Hi, I bought the 50mm F1.8 back in January and I think it is a great lens to have with the D40, admittedly it can on occasions be a real pain to focus if its a little dark or your trying to catch a moving subject but it is well worth the effort and if it is a still subject its very easy to get right. I am new to this photography game myself but feel the the sharpness of this lens really puts the kit and 55-200 VR to shame plus you can be creative with the DOF. At under £90 it is a must have and a bargin ;)

This lens is cracking and for that price its a bargain I paid 120 for mine a month ago so get it! You wont regret it. A great portrait lens

If you're only going to use it on a d40, you could get an older 50mm prime off ebay for less money that doesn't have the AF circuitry, the glass design is exactly the same, and the build quality and focus ring is much smoother than the D version, and it'll save you money.

i bought one, when i had a D40, didn't find manual focus that bad, but was a pain, so i upgraded my camera to a D90 so it did auto focus

Same experience as myself, most of my best pics have been with this lens. Great value for money

I've one on my D90 - superb, the best thing you can do to improve your photography (that, and Lightroom!)
