After over 12 months of looking at images on pixel peepers and re reading Ken's review and dreaming of touching the crinkle finish I have finally pressed the 'BUY IT' button after seeing it for <£845 with accrued points at 1SD. I know the lens I should have been saving for is the 80-200 but I just can't resist this masterpiece of design. Can't see it reducing in price lower than this so could be an investement in glass (that's my excuse to the wife anyway).

Can't beat that crinkle finish! Be interested to hear how you get on with it, I had considered one at one point but am happy enough with the 80-200 for now.

80-200 is now next on the list but I am looking at 2012 unless a pub refurb pic project comes to fruition. Will post some pics after I have finished fondling it!

Good choice, I bought a 105DC f2 and it's really very lovely - look forward to the results :)

I recently bought the 105 dc and it's by far my favourite lens. It really seems to flatter women in portraits.

Sat here stroking said lens! 2.5 days fully tracked from HK (1SD) was impressive.
Gave it a quick test this evening to get to grips with the effiects the DC ring gives - got a little concerned at 1st when I whacked it to the far right on 2.8 and thought there was a focus issue! All in order now and need to get some proper practice with it. Might pull it out of the bag at tommorow's wedding for a few later in the afternoon.......................will post back if things go to plan!

A dirty little Nikon secret is that focus goes to pot with the defocus control on cropped sensor bodies. How is it on the D7000, Syd?

I used to own the 135mm f2 DC, a beautiful lens. This might be helpful to you:

Cheers.

Is it just me or do others get a little twitchy when they see cameras being handled in such a carefree manner without a strap attached? Especially when it could mean a few grand bouncing off the floor.

Or am I being over cautious................?

They probably have insurance, although yes it is a bit unnerving sometimes. Just don't look at the videos he paints a Nikon pink or drops a 300mm lens :D

If anything I think Kai talks down the defocus control in this video, it is very flattering when used properly. Nikoncafe has a great lens sample gallery of the 105/135.

I gave it a whirl this afternoon - posted a few shots in the portrait thread.

Seems sharp with the flexibility of the DC so lots to explore. Gotta love the 85mm though, it's a gem.
