Nikon Active D-Lighting - do you use it?

More in camera processing than pp but thought it would fit in this thread.

Just wondered how many Nikon users actually use this feature - do you use it selectively, all the time on auto or not at all? Just curious what other users thought of the feature having used it myself on auto for 2 or 3 years and after a camera change I have opted to turn it off.........................

I had it on for about a year after I got my D5100 then turned it off and forgot all about it - until someone mentions it on a photography forum, of course. It changed the way my photos look but not as much as I've changed them in post-processing.

I shoot raw so it's not really needed.

I shoot RAW so don't use it. I've heard though that if for some reason you absolutely have to shoot jpeg it does make an improvement.

Shoot RAW as well, but some shots do get a bit of ADL. Kinda HDR, isn't it?

Using Capture NX2 for processing RAWs, but ViewNX2 can be used as well... ADL is possible in both.

ADL can work quite well in conjunction with in-camera HDR if you get the settings right.
