So, after spending a while getting to know my camera and trying to take better shots, I decided it was time to try my hand at some pp and I bought Elements 11.
So far I've used the active D setting in my camera to try to work round photos with very dark & very light areas, but I think there are adjustments you can make in elements which also correct for this.
My question is should I keep active D on at all, or will I get better results by just leaving it off and using Elements to make adjustments? Or does it not matter whether it's on or off?(I usually shoot raw & jpeg)

Active D Lighting only affects jpeg.

If you like what it does to them and you mostly use jpegs then leave it turned on.

Or... if you shoot RAW and wants to add D-Lighting afterwards, use ViewNX2 (came with camera) or CaptureNX2.

Thanks for the answers :-) I've shot RAW + jpeg up to now, but I haven't done much with the RAW files - mainly just sharpening and a bit of straightening if they've needed it. As active D won't affect the RAW files I'll leave it on - it might be good to have something to compare with
