how good is the d810 is it worth the exta cash ??
d750 seem to get a good review and it scores higher in the overall review against the d810 !!
had a play with the d500 in jessops at the weekend and was impressed with it. how good is it in the field ?? any owners want to give me there opinion
the d7200 much like my old d7100 but the cheap option but not out of the running

thanks

I had my heart set on a D750 - until I picked one up in a shop. After 7 years of using a D700 it felt like a step back to my old D70. So I bought a D810, it just felt 'right'.
It's the advice everyone gives but go and handle them in a shop if you can. You can stare at spec sheets, reviews and opinions all day long, but unless there's a unique feature you require for your photography, then you can't beat picking one up and having a play. Let's face it they're all damn good cameras.

Where the D500 excels is with AF and speed so for planes, birds & motorcycle racing it is ideal ... plus of course it gives you extra 'reach'.
The D810 shares Group Area-AF which is very good but otherwise it doesn't match the D500 AF ... it can produce very clean images as it deals with low-light very well, but it isn't fast by any means.
If you don't need the super AF and/or speed but like the 'reach' of DX, together with good image quality, you don't need to look beyond the D7200 IMO :)

D500 is the best for what you shoot but do you need it?

Very similar to you - have a D300 (as not worth selling it) and a D700 as backup. I ended up going for the D750 18 months ish ago and like it a lot. ISO is excellent, and IQ is great. In an ideal world this would come in a D700 body, as this does feel more solid. That said build quality is fine and while i miss the size and weight, its nice at times being lighter. For planes I use a Tamron 150-600 and while it would be nice to have the extra reach, in reality handholding at 1/250 will get very few keepers at 800/900mm!!!
