Right so this lens is apparently very slow in the AF department, but how slow is "very slow"?

Taking the Nikon 70-300mm (non VR) as an example, how does it compare?
 
I use one on my D300, whilst it isn` as fast as my 300 F4,it is certainly not as slow as the tortoise it is often made out to be.I can`t compare to the lens you mention as I don`t have one . However,if you know of its limitations and adjust for them,it is a very handy,fairly compact zoom with a very good range. I have got images of dragonflies in flight with it,so it ain`t that slow..

Stewart has them for hire. Sensible way to go........:thumbs:

Mine seems sharpest at F8 and it does focus faster on the 300 compared to the 200.Be patient with it and you`ll get some good results.........:thumbs:
