Hi all

I am looing to go for a faster zoom than my 18-200 . Is the VR 70-200 really worth the extra cash  . The 80-200 get really good reviews and is a very sharp lens .. my photo's are not high octane speed related so I need some help

Any thoughts welcome

Thanks

I have both an 80-200 AFS f2.8 and the 70-200VR f2.8 - the 70-200 is much lighter than the 80-200, sharpness wise I don't think there is much to choose between them. They are both cracking lenses, BUT, you do get a bit of barrel distortion on the 70 end - horizon curvature it shows as. I haven't seen this with the 80 end.

I don't use the 80-200 anymore. I am not sure why really, probably because of the weight and because I have the newer one! I might just take the 80-200 with me tomorrow now, just to see how it measures up and report back. I am shooting a bike in Yorkshire....hope the weather stays dry or it won't get used and we'll be stuck inside the warehouse with lights.

Thanks

Interested to see what you think of the 80-200 if you use it :D

I have both the 18-200 and 70-200 VR and yes, it's definitely worth it! I would say that though, seeing as though motorsport is my thing.

I looked at the Sigma 70-200 but didn't rate it highly and it just didn't feel right to me.
