Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 afd with D200

I used one on a D200 and a D300 without any issues, i've since sold the 80-200 to fracster,he's using it on a D200 without any problems as far as i'm aware

Has anyone got/used this combination? (the two ring version)
I read on a forum somewhere that there were issues with focus using this lens on the newer bodies?

I have the same lens i use on my D3 .... i also use it on my Fuji S5 ( same as D200 ) ... and its a great lens. Pin sharp right through. I ususally shoot around f5.6 - f8 .... well worth the money. Compared it to the VR version and theres little difference. Mine still captures pin sharp images ...

Thanks for info. I currently use the D200 with the 55-200mm vr. Was thinking of upgrading to the D300, but now considering keeping the D200 and getting the 80-200.
What would you do? I mainly shoot animals.

The 80-200/D200 combo is  It's a cracking lens and imho a bargain for what it is.The only thing I could fault it on was the lack of AF-S made it just a touch slow for motorsport use, but for wildlife it should be excellent.

I bought one for use on my D300 from Camerabox .co.uk . I couldnt get a sharp image when using autofocus. I tried all apertures I could with the available ( sun) light and every distance from a few feet away to about 30 metres.

I sent it back to Camerabox.co.uk , they said ( after 2 weeks) there was no fault with it ( well they would wouldnt they to save refunding £30 in postage)
So, if that was an example of how this lens performs, i wouldnt touch it.

Apparently, there are minimum focus distance issues with this lens on the D300 ( and probably others) but when i rang Nikon about the af focus issues i was having, they suspected the lens was faulty and i was being fobbed off by the retailer. ( Camerabox.co.uk)

I previously had an 80-200 AF-S and now have a 70-200 vr. Both are ( were) pin sharp at all distances.

Others state the lens is superb, if you do decide to get one, dont get it from Camerabox.co.uk they may sell you my allegedly faulty one.

go with that, you won't regret it, the 80-200mm F/2.8 is the mutts nuts for the money, i've also had the really old 80-200 AF push pull one and that was great as well
