As it says in the title. The nikon is the push/pull model. They are both 2nd hand.

The nikon is £385 with 12 months warranty
the sigma is £429 with 6 months warranty

choices choices
 
Given the choice I'd usually go for the Nikon, however it's going to be a pretty old lens - any idea how old the Sigma is?

it should be nikon Af if-ed

push/pull model changes it from af to manual by push/pulling the focus ring. I think!
 
As Flash links... push/pull refers to the movement of the zoom, you push/pull the ring down the barrel rather than twist the ring, as you see now on most lenses. Push/pulls give you very fast zoom from one extreme to the other, but you don't have the fine control that you do with the twist action.

Can you stretch to the later two touch version? About £5?? s/hand
 
Yeah. Possibly can stretch to that v8. Where have they got them advertised?
 
They turn up ALL the time... try the usual Grays (although a bit expensive), Ffords, Mifsuds etc or Ebay of course. As with all things, if you then want to spend £200 more you could get the AF-S version, and just a few hundred more for the 70-200 VR...

But seriously, the two touch is a cracking lens. AF speed is good (not AF-S good, but pefectly fast for most situations) and the optics are great, it's a big heavy lump, but a nice lens.
 
try digital rev on fleabay got mine of them for £669 +7 year warranty only 3 days to arrive as well! warning tis a heavy beast:D

Yes DigitalRev look to be a good supplier, as long as you read the listing for duty and taxes. I know Camerabox (if I remember correctly) have the 80-200mm new at £719.99, but you are no better off than buying from DR really, as they are imports too, and more expensive, just that the stock is in the UK (it would appear).

Maybe I should have done that? I went for the older (up to 2003) AF-S version of the 80-200mm at over £700 s/hand. But it has the benefits of AF-S so swings and roundabouts.
 
any idea which sigma 70-200 it is?

ive got the first gen "macro" and love it. have a rummage through my flickr below, the latest horsey pics on there are 70-200 shots.. edit - actually if you look in the sports section there are large copies of those pics.
 
I got a one-touch (the twist zoom) version of the f/2.8 80-200mm off ebay for £650. Great lens and although it's not as flexible as my old Siggy with regards to the overall zoom range, it's a lovely piece of kit that feels more substantial in the hand than the Sigma. The only benefit the Sigma has over the Nikon is slightly quieter AF and slightly faster AF, that's it.

Neil g, definitely, have to agree with that. The build quality is A!... it's just the Nikon is A1+ :D

To the OP, either lens is a fantastic mid-range zoom for a bit of everything. For the dosh they're great value, good value used, especially when you think for the same money from Canon you'll just get a 70-200mm f/4 - you'd struggle to get the f/2.8 version used for that money

(**obviously someone will now prove me totally and utterly wrong**) :)
 
Rang lce. The sigma is ex macro. She said it's not dg! That right?
 
JustIJust rang them back. It's a ex but non dg and non macro. She didn't know how old it was. Will it be really old as non dg?
