Yes
A bit of a follow up from my first post. I might with a little luck, have a Nikon D5600 in a few days. Granted, not my first choice but after so long without a camera,
and funds being such, I'm sure it'll cover most of my needs at the moment. The D5600 has the kit lens attached so I've been looking at telephoto zoom lenses and
came across the above. Used prices range from £70-£100 which fits the budget perfectly. The question is, will this older style lens get on with the D5600 or will it
be a love hate relationship?

Will only be manual focus on a D5600 you will need an AF-S lens if you want autofocus. 55-200, 55-300, 70-300 etc.

Appreciated Tommy. Out of interest, do you know if auto focus will work on a D7000?

I have the F4 version of the lens and that works fine with my d90, so I believe it will work fine with the D7000.

If the D7000 has the focus motor built in then yes, it should AF OK.

FWIW I did have one of these for a while to use on FX - it was disappointingly not very crisp, and I would get better results from heavily cropping pictures taken with a sharp 85mm lens than I would at full frame with the 70-210. TBH I couldn't recommend it.

What about a more recent lens designed to work with that camera?

Yes, it will work fine on the D7000, it has a built in motor so both AF-S lenses and AF-D lenses are fine. AF-D lenses will not autofocus on the entry level bodies like the D3XXX and D5XXX series bodies as they do not have a built in motor.

When I shot Nikon at one point I had a Tamron 70-300 it was very good for the money and very reasonably priced, it has a built in motor and vibration control and will work on all the Nikon bodies. With Tamron for Nikon usd means it has a built in motor. It is a much better lens than the one you mentioned.

Appreciated Toni and Kev. If I read it correctly the D7000 has the focus motor so all should work well with this lens.

I read a comment by Gaz Jones at Park Cameras, that the lens is super sharp with very little distortion and well built etc. Although I think Gaz Jones has quoted Ken Rockwell
after reading his review. Thanks for links to MPB Toni, I haven't looked at the more recent lenses much as I'm avoiding plastic mounts where possible, although I see the Tamron
and Sigma lenses in the links both have metal mounts. There again, I've only been looking at Nikon lenses. It can get a bit frustrating this, I get the D5600 with 18-35 for £295.00
with a three month warranty, so I've been looking at other options for £300.00. A nice D7000 at MPB seems be £200 tops, which leaves £100 for a kit lens/standard lens and
may be another £100 for a larger telephoto...

Ive got a D7000 for sale in the classified section.

I used to use this exact lens on a D7000 so it definitely works.

I always found it to work well but I was using it for motorsport shots, and in particular panning ones that required me to stop it down a good way! That said I was obviously only using it in the centre because of the DX sensor so it tends to hide some issues that FX sensors can face with lenses.

Just for what it’s worth, the Nikon 70-300 VR can be had for less than £200 these days, as can the Tamron 70-300 VC. Both enjoy good reputations and should work on your 5600 :)

It gets very confusing Andy when you haven't kept up equipment. I've looked at some lenses thinking they may be four/five year old, and they're nearly twenty or so. I'm baffled
with the ever changing letters after the focal length and only this week came across one with a "P". I lost a few brain cells trying to decide on a camera body, but lenses
just seem like a mine field, not helped by a such a low budget. At the moment I have a kit in the basket at MPB, a D7000 with an MB-D11 battery grip, and a Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD. Total of £397.00 which is my budget, no doubt in a couple of months I could add a short zoom, but swap the Tamron for a Nikon AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G IF ED VR, I'm looking
at £500.00...

Do you need the grip? I have one but have not used it with my D750, not sure if that will bring the price down a bit?

The tamron does get good review.

A grip wasn't a priority Kev, but I thought £34.00 for a Nikon one whilst they had it. I can only think of two cameras I never had a grip for, an OM10 and a D50,
and the latter was a works camera.
