What is the problem with nikon? I can't get a 70-200 f2.8 zoom and neither can I get a reason why they aren't available. Anyone have the answer?

Major rumours of a 70-200 VR II coming out soon, but I would have thought that would have been released at Photokina

Other than that, it's a great focal length with the D3.

Onestop digital?

I think the answer is probably that you haven't tried. I mean, Jacobs have them in stock. Warehouse Express have them in stock. Where did you look?

Why go for Nikon? I have just purchased the Sigma version for under half the price of Nikon and it is a fabulous lens.

Try Clifton Cameras, they had some recently, plus they were cheaper for Nikon-UK stock than the grey sellers on Ebay!

My local camera shop ( Canterbury camera centre) had one in stock on Thursday at £1140. It was on my D300 for a few minutes :)

WEX don't have them in stock, they do however have a sizeable backorder list.

I tried to get one myself and was told of a few shipments coming in soon, but it's something like 10 here, 12 there, and by the time it got to me I was probably looking at the end of October/November time!

Warehouse Express had them in stock yesterday if thats any help.

sharp shots at 1/15s hand held perhaps. VR can work wonders sometimes. Other than that, I noticed a huge increase in general sharpness and overall image quality when I upgraded from the sigma to the nikon.

I have just done the same & agree with you. Thought the Sigma was good but I am very impressed so far with the Nikon. & the lens hood stays in place when reversed which is more than it did on the Sigma.

Seems to be the same with the Nikon 80-200 f2.8 that i have now tried to buy/paid for from 3 different suppliers. Kerso is currently trying to supply me this lens but again he is having trouble.Good old Nikon.

I got an 80-200 paid for Friday, delivered today. Just one problem, it wont focus properly on A/F so its going back.
Cant tell you where it was from because I want a replacement! :naughty:

Walked into Ffordes on wednesday & walked out with the lens + 1.4 conv. They had another on the shelf

Got mine from WEX 2 weeks ago after being told initially they were out of stock.

Spoke to a nice man who told me when the next delivery was due. Sure enough on the day he had stated, got an email, message on my home phone, and message on my mobile when the lens was in !! Excellent service and they do BNPL (takes about 4-5 days to set up) :D

£1146 - not too far off grey import prices, and the peace of mind that if the lens develops problems the warranty will cover it ;)

Oh, and it is a truely fabulous lens :D
