Anybody got any feedback on the lens above? have been toying with the 2.8VR 2 but decided to save some cash and weight and opt for the F4 which all being well I shall be collecting tomorrow. Need to remember to buy a 67mm filter ring but other than that I have read very positive reviews that made me make the compromise.

Great lens. Always impresses me. And it takes the Nikon TC's. Used mine at motorsport yesterday with the 1.4, but could have done with the 1.7.
You may miss the 2.8 of the errrr 2.8, but you'll not miss the weight. This goes on my bag ,"just in case". Doubt I'd do that with the 2.8.

A great lens, so far I havent missed the f2.8 although I've thought about night wildlife photography. The IQ is pretty good, takes the nikon 1.4 TC quite well too. I have previously owned both the nikon 70-200 f2.8 vr1 and vr2. I sold the vr2 when upgrading to a 200-400 f4 but after a few months I picked up a used 70-200 f4 as a light alternative telephoto as I missed that focal length. I thought about the vr2 but the weight saving of the f4 meant I would take it with me more often which I fine I do. The f4 is pretty sharp across the whole frame too, there is a little vignetting but nothing lightroom can't sort out with the lens profile. Highly recommend the f4, I think many would be surprised how good it really is.

Superb lens. I do not need a fast lens in that range therefore there was never a thought given to getting the f2.8 version.

Picked it up yesterday and had a quick play taking a couple of shots out while walking the dog, first impressions very good and impressed with the DOF for F4. Had 80-200 f2.8 before and this definitely seems to be sharper.
