I have the chance of obtaining a Nikon 70-200 f2.8 [original issue] zoom lens.
Any comments on the quality of operation of this lens would be appreciated.

It's a fantastic lens - excellent image quality. It's very sharp stopped down and not bad wide open either. The VR function works well. Slight vignetting on full frame sensors but nothing major - I even prefer it.

If you can get it at a good price I wouldn't hesitate if I were you :)

I find the vignette to be quite strong on ff/35mm. It is easily fixable nut still quite annoying. It's much more noticeable in my shots as there is usually either sky or snow in the corners of the frame.

otherwise it's great, but i'm pretty sure you (op) already knew that.
 
one of the best lenses ever made, if you can pick it up for under £1,100 and its in top class condition then go for it
 
picked mine up for £1150.....and i have not taken it off the body in 3 months...love it....buy it you wont regret it...:thumbs:
 
it's a nikon pro lens, that means it's good, if you can afford it, go for it, end of :)
 
Superb lens. I don't use mine enough.
 
Incredible lens. My favourite by a long way. Superb handling and build quality (as you would expect for the price). It does get a bit heavy on long shoots but the pain in your arms is always worth it :D

Most importantly, you know that it is going to work day in, day out.
 
I got one recently, incredibly sharp, great to use :)
 
It's a wonderful, wonderful lens! Quality-wise, it's right up there with Nikon's best.
 
It is a stonking lens. I love mine.
