No
I have a Nikon D5500 and only have the 18-55 VR lens, I would really like a telephoto lens but im not sure which one to go for, i was wondering if people could help me out with which lens i should go for?

Depends how much you want to spend. If you can spend the little extra, I'd go with a 70-300, if only for the fact the front element doesn't rotate on focus so it's alot easier using filters / lens hoods.

Also explore the option of the Tamron 70-300 VC lens, gets good reports.

Thanks :).My budget is about the same price as i can get the 70 -300 for, i have seen different reviews on that lens with my camera (D5500), saying something about there is not much point in the 70 - 300 as the camera doesn't have the sensors for it? I am fairly new to photography but i want to get the best 300 lens within my budget and the two lenses are my main focus.

Not sure where you have seen the sensor reviews but the D5500 will have an excellent sensor, as do the other 24mp cameras from Nikon.

I have owned both the Tamron and Nikon 70-300mm VR lenses and for the price the Tamron is well worth the money. IMO the Nikon was slightly better built, output, I preferred the Tamron.

I'm selling a good Nikon 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 AF-S VR ED IF G lens £210 - have a look in the Nikon classifieds

It's a great lens to start with

With just 2 posts (so far - keep going, Jay!), the OP won't have access to the classifieds yet. The 70-300 would be my choice and for me, the Nikkor was the one to go for over the Tamron or Sigma alternatives.

Thanks for the help guys, appreciate the advice :) I think if i can get the Nikon 70 - 300 for a good price i will go for that, if not i will consider the Tamron.
