off to brands bsb next week, will be first time using dslr with this lens at motorbike meet, what would be the ideal set up to get good results, ie focus mode, af-a...af-s...af-c, and af-area mode, single- point af...dynamic-area af...auto-area af, and is it best to use shutter priority, also focus with half shutter, or back button focus,
cheers

I'll be there experimenting with my 55-300 too, starting with single point, shutter priority and lot's of panning practice, Family permitting of course. It's hard to to pan when wearing a baby!

Shutter priority with single point would be a good place to start then play from there.

I would go shutter priority start around 1/250 with single point focus and on af-c mode. Also maybe have a go with af dynamic as it's designed for moving subjects.

I prefer the single point focus but would be tempted to have a try with the 3d in af-c if subjects are relatively fast moving. Because of the speed I would use shutter priority.

Hope you have a great day and let us know how you got on.

If the OP is shooting motorbikes I think they will be fairly fast moving specially if there something like British Superbikes.

Very few slow areas on the full GP circuit at Brands too. Shots of random back wheels are the order of the day! :D

If the light's alright you'll be fine. I did a track day at Donnington and stuck the 55-300 on, set it to Jpeg and rapid release, then gave it to my brother in law who'd never even seen an slr before. He got a fair few reasonable shots.

Oh I won't!

Heading down on the Saturday morning, then stopping over at the Swanley Travelodge on saturday night. (the boy's pretty much put a stop to our usual camping... and the concept of sleep for that matter).

If you see a very heavily tattooed, bearded, no-neck thug, with a d3000 and 55-300 and a baby strapped to his chest, do say hi... I'm infinitely more pleasant than I look!
