Yes
Thinking of buying this lens next week. Its about half the price of the 70-300mm VR. Any reason not to?

Yep have one myself have had no problems with it and its a great addition to my original kit lens! Go for it, I think I paid about £145 delivered!!

On ebay you can get them for £120 new.

For the price, I'd say buy it without giving it a second thought .. unless you want to go with the 70-300VR, but that's a whole different ballgame (at more than double the price)!

How do they compare side by side, other than focal length?

Is a very good lens...i may be selling mine shortly as I'm about to get an 18-200 VR.

I think the problem is that you can never have enough zoom!!!!!!! If its your 1st additional lens a 55-200VR is a great lens for just about everything but I have to say I would like an 18-200 because sometimes changing lens' can be a pain. I'd still say that its worth it i'm very pleased with mine!!

Sorry, I don't have any of the two! However I have a close friend / relative for whome I got the 55-200VR and she loves it, I wanted to get her the 70-300VR but she nagged me out of it as she thought it was a bit too big for her to carry around.

I've seen some of her results with the 55-22VR (she's a novice at this) and she gets some really great shots; it's then that I realised that she would have been better off had I got her the 70-300VR as she'd have more focal length.

So, if you are ok with the money being spent for the 70-300VR then I'd say go with that .. I've read a lot about that lens and, like the 55-200VR, for the money it's just amazing ... and I mean seriously amazing .. both lenses are compact, light, good "reach", offer very good VR, and for the price you really can't beat, unless you want to go with Sigma / Tamron / Tokina?!?

Its a good lens, if a little slow. Having said that I have got some cracking shots with it in the past, even though it would be nice to have the length of the 70-300.
