Hey all,

I looked up online how to disassemble the lens with no luck.
There's fungus in the front element and i wanna give it a go at cleaning it

thx a lot @Flighter , that's like a complete disassembly guide.
But i realized buying the tools might be more expensive than sending it to be cleaned. I'll get w quote and see what's cheaper.
 
Just out of curiosity, will i be able to use the lens until i sort the fungus problem? it looks ok through the viewfinder I'm just curious if it affects the image on the film negative.

Well it all depends where the fungus is and how bad..... if fungus is on the front element you probably wont see any difference in a print, but the back element is more important so might affect the image. First thing is to kill the fungus and if you put the lens facing the sun (off the camera of course) then UV will kill it.

Look at https://richardhaw.com/ ... he has a detailed photo strip down & clean of the 50 f2 plus a lot of other Nikkor lenses, the site also lists any tools and materials you will need (JIS cross point screwdrivers etc). The hardest bit if you have never done it is to disassemble the helicoid focus rings (so you can re-assemble it later)... if you do it using Richard's method ... it works
 
@excalibur2 thx for the info. Yes it looks like it's only the front element that's affected. I'll give it a go then and shoot one roll.

That's some good info
although i bought the lens used and already knew it had fungus, i realized i should store my newer equipment in a warmer room.
What a pain in the @ss.
But i have a feeling the lens was left in the dark for a long time ...
