Hi All,

I just wanted to ask other owners of the 50mm 1.4 g if they experience the same issues as I am.

I recently purchased this lens second hand and it arrived today. It is great condition for the outside, but when I took it for a test drive I seem to be having autofocus issues.......I think.

I am running it on a D90, but am upgrading to a D700 (when it arrives).

I know this lenses autofocus is not uber fast, but it seems to get very slow to the point of stopping at times and I have to keep depress the button half down to get it to move. It will eventually find the focus point.

This has been a little intermittent over the past few hours when I have tested it around the house so I am not sure if it is something I might be doing. So I am going to take it for a proper run out tomorrow.

But I was wondering if I am finding a common characteristic of the lens, or do I have a duff one and should brace myself for a debate with the previous owner.

Matt

have you tried cleaning the contacts on both the lens and the body, I have the same lens and have no issues with focus speed or it stopping mid focus.

I bought one of these on here the other day and the focus is leisurely to say the least and squeaks now and then, but it never stops/slows down en route to the focus. I'd try cleaning the contacts but I'm not sure it's a contact issue.

I'm not sure what the issue is. It is sluggish sometimes, but it has had trouble finding its mark and sticking. I may have been sold a duff one un false pretences.

I'll give the contacts a wipe and see if that helps and test it again tomorrow. I'm also waiting on my D700 to arrive as I wonder if it might be an issue with my D90 too.

I have contact the previous owner to see what he has to say.

I've given the contacts a good clean on the camera and lens and so far so good. Not 100% convinced that has resolved it though.

All resolved. Cleaned the contacts, took it out for a few hours photo walk, and no trouble at all. Not the fastest focusing lens but it is focusing nicely, the focusing ring is turning freely. Job done.

No slouch either, but it is accurate, which at f1.4 with a thin DOF is more important to me ;)

Glad that all was fine with yours
