Nikon 50mm 1.8g vs D version?

Anyone here used both?..I used to have the d version many moons ago and loved it but have been reading some glowing reports on the new g version! Is it that much better?.Still cant decide to get one or not as I have the 60mm afs macro but the extra stops would be nice..
