Well I had a wander into LCE on the Strand today and what did they have sitting in the second hand cabinet...

Nikon 50mm ƒ1.2 what a lovely lens it is .... I was there to pick up an 85mm ƒ1.8 that I reserved mint condition less than 1 year old from 240.00

But I had to have a play with the 50mm... and boy that sucker really gives you a lovely out of focus background, and the band of focus is narrow at ƒ1.2.

All manual but a very nice lens....

question is.....Did you get it? ;D

Did mot buy it but left the shop drooling....

They were after 367 if I remember correctly..

Total luxury indulgence item - wonder why they never did an AF version to go up against the Canon version?

Thats such a good price, being a canon boy am I right in thinking an adapter would be needed to fit it to your "D700"? (Talking about the 50mm)

Or would it fit straight on?

That little beastie fitted right on the d700 and it took a lot of effort to take it off and put it back in the cabinet.

That's one sexy lens

Robert White have them listed, new :)

Its a stunning lens

it was good on my D300 but on FX it really shines.

I got mine for £30 second hand :D:D:D:D

What exposure/metering modes can you use with it, just out of interest?

A.

should be manual and apeture priority that you'll get full metering for, lose program and shutter priority obviously (because it cant change the apeture for you!). and it'd carry full exif.

thats with the d300, so i should imagine its the same with the d700

thats what i love about nikon, they've used the same mount for decades and pretty much every lens will work on current digital bodies, most with metering.

50mm f1.2 looks soooooo nice!

Bear in mind that you should make sure that older pre-AI lenses have had their mount modified, like this one.
