Hello,

I am looking at buying the Nikon 35mm f1.8 G AF-S DX Lens for my D40, as I need a fast, well performing in low light lens. Having read a bit about it on here and other forums/websites it seems like a good choice, especially for the price.

However, the cheapest (and trusted seller) I can find it is £166 from Warehouse Express. But I was wondering if anyone could suggest (again, a trusted seller) where and if I could get it any cheaper?

Thanks in advance

I bought mine 2 weeks ago from Jessops for £169, and they have em in stock in store if you don't want to wait for delivery.

I was out in the garden at the weekend and saw this little fella flying round the garden, so did a quick snap. f4, 1/500th, 200 iso. Full shot and 100% crop

I do love this lens... :¬)

Ok cool guys, thanks. Looks like around £166 is what I will be going for. May have to pop in at Jessops - easier and quicker.

Nice pics, by the way, can't wait to get my dirty mitts on it! The lens, not the bird.

Personally I find 50mm much better - the 1.4AFS is £100 more but a beauty!

I went 35 rather than 50, as the 50 is just too close to use indoor etc. The 35 is just that bit wider it makes all the difference.

The new 35mm sits really well on a D40, its a great combination. I found 50mm a bit too long for me on a APS-C camera, although it does work well for head and shoulders shots.

i want this and then thought maybe not spend due to funds, however i've decided i might just try it, as alot of my pics are indoors of the little one, so want something light is to move, good at low light and gives me something wider indoors, as the 50mm is a bit too limiting indoors i find

I bought the 35mm for my D40 and it was the reason that I didn't sell my SLR. I'd begun to wonder about the pros of SLRs versus good compact and bridge cameras which I owned. This lens convinced me not to sell. Annoyingly I've ended up spending more and more on SLRs!

When I got a D90 i tried a 50mm f1.4. Frankly, the difference was not the revelation that you would believe from posted comments - I sent it back.

Buy a 85mm f1.8 to complement the 35mm instead! Another great value lens.

As an aside, go for the 35 F2 as it is FX compatible. You may not be thinking of going full frame, but you never know............

Would be manual focus on a D40. It's a nice lens but the newer AFS/DX model does seem to be a step up in image quality and would obviously work well on the D40.

Ah, didn`t know that, never had a non motor body.Fair comment......:)

i got this lens (great choice) back in Jan 2010 and have used it loads. I bought it from a shop on amazon who are based in Germany. The shop was called AVIDES Media - think they also have their own website too. It arrived in 3 days and I was sent a tracking number so i could track it all the way from Germany to UK. It was £166.96 delivered.

I finally got this last night and I can safely say it is a fantastic lens and great value too. Can't wait to take it out at the weekend.

I am looking for a filter (I already have polarising filters for my other lenses) but I was thinking of trying something different - maybe ND? I am not really sure and was wondering what you guys might suggest? I predominantly do wildlife/landscape. Thanks in advance

i got mine, fantastic lens, but i need to learn to use it more.
i find the 18-200 VR qith quick setup suits me better, but the pics from the 35mm can be awesome.

I already have the 50mm 1.8, mainly fixed on my s5 pro, is it worth getting the 35 as well, as a walk about lens on my D60 (which lives in the boot of my car so I always have a camera to hand)? I already have the 18 - 55 kit lens on it......

35mm is quieter and for indoor use is better suited to me

If you have a spare £160-£170 I would say yes. It is an extremely fast lens and gives great sharp images. Although it is a prime lens I still think this is a bargain.
