Hi,

Looking to get one of these lenses today. I have a D40 there is about £60 difference in the price of these lenses.
Is it worth £60 to get it to auto focus or am i better off with the cheeper 50mm one.

Please help

I think you will find the image quailty of the 35mm much better than the 50mm, I really was not impressed with the Nikon 50mm f1.8, As they haven't bothered to update it to AF-S I can only assume Nikon are not that impressed with it either!

The other question is what do you want to take photographs of?

The 35mm is a more useful focal length on your camera, it will autofocus and the image quality is better, so I'd say it's definitely worth the extra £60.

im looking for something different than to two kit lenses i have, I want to be able to take photos with shallower DOF and maybe people/potrate shots

Well, 50mm would be better for portraits but it won't autofocus on your camera which will limit its use.

Not sure what people are on about though, the 50mm 1.8 has fantastic image quality (I have both the 50mm and the 35mm)
