Nikon 35mm f/1.8G - What a Lens!

It's night and day better. Joe, you know how difficult I am to please, well, this lens punches so far above its weight it's scary.

Here. Wide open, iso 640, only adjustment WB and slight clarity boost.

Although I've never tried the Nikon, night and day better is quite a commendation as the Canon 35mm f/2 is bloody good!

Don't know what to tell you. I recieved a link to printable versions from Nikon UK in my welcome email. I printed the voucher and used it at the same store I bought my camera body.

The email was from: offers@nikonplus.co.uk

Where did you get your D7000 from, I was told by nikon support that shops that ran the "nikon plus offer" where eligible for the vouchers. Mine being from Amazon uk, I did not get any vouchers when I registered my D7000.

I was completely underwhelmed by the one I tried.

Must have had a poor copy, mine is superb, as sharp as the legendary Canon 85mm f/1.8. My only gripe is minor ca on very bright areas (which is normal on a lens if this type) but convert in DPP and it goes away.

And expensive!

No not really. I got mine used (with a 2010 date code) for only £160.

£175 isn't very expensive for a fast prime. thats similar price to the nikon one referred here

Not seen a new one that cheap. The cheapest I've seen is £220 new but they are fairly rare. I fact they are as much as £300 on amazon at the mo which is normally quite cheap for uk stock lenses.

Well, stock is the key word there but here you go

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5560497.htm?CMPID=GS001&_$ja=tsid:11527%7Ccc:%7Cprd:5560497%7Ccat:photography+%2F+camera+lenses+%2F

In stock or not? That's another question altogether.

Blimey, that's a lot, lot cheaper than all of the main 'specialist retailers', Jessops, Park Cameras, Misfuds etc, maybe I'll start buying from Argos!

I'm gonna see what else they have...

Edit - oddly it appears to be one of the only lenses they stock?

I bought the 35mm to a) revive my D40 after the 18-55 broke for the second time, and b) to use with my new D7000 body (only decent lens I could afford straight away) .

tbh at first I really didn't like it: I thought it would be good for shooting the many sunrises I see. My first time out with it I was really disappointed - most of my shots had really bad purple fringing.

I do use it quite a lot now though as it's fast and sharp, it's grown on me, but I must say I'm still a bit wary of shooting into the light. I know there's a correction for the fringing in CS5 but after all the great reviews I had read about this lens I must admit it surprised me a bit :)

Nobody said it was perfect, but for the money it is close.

A bit of fringing/ca is inherent in this sort of fast prime, they all do it to a degree but its fairly easy to correct in post.

Bought mine a couple of months ago. Virtually never leaves my camera now. It really is a cracking bit of kit. If you haven't already, buy one now!!

Same here, great lens.

Now only using my kit lens as a wide angle.

Only one problem, next lens I'm looking to get is a telephoto. But I now don't want something as slow as F4-5.6. This cheap lens could end up being very expensive.

Gonna have to get one now. Postman just dropped off £40 worth of Tesco vouchers worth at jessops £80 I think or £120 need to read the small print

£40 of Tesco vouchers = £80 to spend in Jessops. I think it has to be used by sometime on October though, best check the small print on that one.

I used a load of old Tesco Clubcard tokens to get my 35mm.

Jessops online price - £164.99 (order and collect gets you the online price)
Clubcard tokens - £150.00-
Topcashback (3.03%) £ 4.99-
Total cost to me £10.00 :D:D:D

Hardly ever off my camera now

It really is a good deal :D But does have to be ordered by the middle of October and spent by the end of October.

Just ordered my vouchers yest... I also got £80 worth :)

It sure is an awesome lens, autofocus is fast and accurate, far more so than my 50mm F/1.4, far sharper than my 50mm (although I think thats more down to the AF missing in low light sometimes, than the optics), the only negative is slightly nasty bokeh, but that's not at all an issue when you watch your backgrounds.

I love my 35 f/1.8! Small, light, very sharp, contrasty - excellent. Hideous barrel distortion though, but that's solvable in PS or NX2.

I'm going to buy this once my Tesco vouchers come, been after it for a long time now, really looking forward to it.

What settings in PP are adjusted to resolve any issues that have been mentioned in this thread?

Lightroom has a lens preset thing that sorts out the barrelling. I think Ken Rockwell has the PS adjustment values on his site.

I use the built in lens correction feature in lightroom, works great :)
