Nikon 35mm 1.8 lens

For ages I have wanted a 50mm 1.8 lens for my Nikon D60 and have asked my sons to get me one for my birthday next month. One of them has said though that they would get me a 35mm Nikon 1.8 lens if I wanted it instead as it would auto focus on my D.60. Does anyone have experience of this lens and would it be good for me?
 
I have the nikon 50 f1-8. Although it's lovely I'm looking into getting the 35mm as it has auto focus. I don't find I focus manually at all well
 
I believe Nikon is releasing an up-dated 50 1.8 (G) which would focus on the D40/D60. Maybe worth the wait, but will def be more expensive than the current D version.
 
I find 35mm is a more useful length than 50mm on a crop body and the 35mm will autofocus on your camera so I would get that. The AF-S 35mm is a cracking lens.

In fact, a D60 & 35mm is my preferred lightweight combo when out and about.
 
Love my 35mm it's my favourite lens. I found the build quality is better than the 50mm and with the in built motor in the 35 it's perfect on my D5000.

I've got the 35 and 50 (and a 24) and find that the 35 is the most frequently used of the three - I originally got it for my D60 and it performed wonderfully; on my D90 it is the lens of choice for a lot of things.

Well worth getting over the 50mm.
 
Go for the 35mm for the d60. I have it with d80 and love it.

The above lens has been seen on the nikon website and then removed.Check out the Digital photography review site (DPR) on the home page about halfway down.
May be worth hanging on a while as it will focous on your camera

Have to agree with the previous posts, I've got a D60 & use the 35mm AF-S 1.8G , have to say it's my favourite lens. Produces really sharp pictures, also tried the same lens today on a D90 (my next upgrade :thumbs:) & really pleased with the results.
 
I bought the 35mm 1.8 for my D5000 about 2 months ago and hasn't been off my camera, I love it, especially the low light performance. Super sharp too, even at the extremes. Go for it!
 
I had both the 35 and 50 1.8s on my d90 but found that I used the 50 a lot more so recently sold the 35mm

My 50mm does not autofocus on the d3100. Wish they had told me that when got it as a newbie and find it difficult to manual focus
That's why want 35mm

It's not just newbies who find it difficult to MF on a modern camera, without a focus screen it is difficult. It is simples on a 'proper' SLR that was designed for MF.

Still, with the advent of AF there isn't really any reason why people should have to bother with MF for most of their shots (obviously there are times when it is called for but not in general snapping).
 
I have both the 35 f1.8 and a 50 f1.4 and i find that the 35 is far more usefull on the crop body. The 50 is pretty much redundant for shots indoors as you can't get far enough away from your subject. The 35 is pretty damned sharp and is equal to the 50.

The 50 is about to find it's way to the 'bay in fact as I'm about to order a fast standard zoom, I just can't decide if I should go for the new Sigma 17-50 OS or a second hand Nikon 17-55.
 
It's the permanent lens on my D40. Quick autofocus, knife sharp photos. Go for it.
 
I had the 50 and sold it to buy something else. I then got the 35 and find it much better on the cropped sensor
 
It depends on what you wish to shoot with it. I don't have either but I'd pick the 35mm as on the crop sensor it'd be more like a standard 50mm on a film SLR. A 50mm on the crop would be more like the old portrait lenses. So as I said, it depends on what to use it for.

I would say so, 50 1.8 and 35 1.8 are both relatively cheap and are a good way of experimenting with shallow DOF and the 35 is a lens that as you become more experienced you will never get tired of using or feel restricted.
 
35 on crop is 100 times better then 50, it's more walk around lens and you can use it more, cause 50 on crop it's more for outdoor portrait.
