Seen in our local mag, a Nikon 300s for £450, 3 mths old 500 shots, owner wants to go FX.
This is cheap and wondered if there are any known faults with the model. i am going to look at it but wonder if there is anything i should be looking for. as you see it is cheap, to cheap perhaps...

looks too cheap but if it's in a magazine it doesn't shout scammer. Worth following up at least.

Very few faults as far as I'm aware, brilliant camera.

That's too cheap. Even one with a high number of actuations shouldn't be that cheap, let alone one with only 500. The owner decided to jump to FX after only shooting 500 shots?

But it may check out, who knows.

I wonder if it's a D300 not the s version.

I think you guys are right, its just to cheap,. even if its a 300 its just to cheap, i asked myself why would they not trade it.... Scam comes to mind....

Thanks for the replies, i think i knew it, but just wanted to hear it from others..

It could always be worth a quick phone call if or email if there is a contact option - I know it initially smells of scam/incorrect description but at that price it may be worth enquiring

Well thought i might play the game to see how far it would go.
So emailed him/her, got an email in return.

"Would u agree with delivery ? because as I'm caught out of town with work commitments and I had left the camera to a local courier this morning at my expense incl the shipping costs. If u agree with delivery I'll wait ** shipping address, delivery date preference & phone number as the agent will ring you with few minutes before delivering."

hmmmn..

so are you leaving it there or are you tempted to somehow continue to play along? ;)

This is definitely a scam. Have seen a few of them and the text is exactly along the same lines. They try to get you to go to Ukash vouchers then send a false email pretending to be from Ukash asking you to indicate voucher numbers so that they can confirm to seller that you have the money.

If you respond having bought vouchers they redeem them using the numbers you sent. :nono:

You can follow it along but I would be super sceptical. Your BS meter should be redlining.

Report it to the magazine - reporting it to Ukash is a waste of time as they will take no action unless you can get the police to issue a CR number and/or start an investigation.

There are variations on this scam but they tend to follow the same pattern.

'Left the camera with a local courier'

Yet there is no shipping address yet? Not likely...

Most 'local' couriers have a cash on delivery service. Ask to use that... Just for a laugh as there is no camera.

Update;
Called his/her bluff, asked for couriers contact details, never had a reply, so reported as a scam.. not that will get any where....

Thanks for the replies, nearly nearly got tempted...
