Yes
I need (read want) some more range but unsure of which direction to go in. Ideally I would get the Nikon 300mm f/2.8 but quite simply, I cannot afford it.

At the moment I'm enjoying all types of photography but if I had to pick one, it would be wildlife, hence wanting the 400mm. But I'm just worried that the f/5.6 at the long end will be too slow for other applications such as football matches etc.

Decisions decisions.

I did have a look at that Sigma but I want to keep the purchase to under £1000 and to be honest I want it to be a Nikon lens.

^^^ Which lens are you leaning towards? I won't be ordering to next month or even the beginning of April, so I've plenty of time to make up my mind.

I do like the look of the Sigma 100-300 f/4 but I want to stick with Nikon this time. Not because the Sigma is bad, I just fancy a Nikon.

Me too and I have a 70-300 VR zoom already so the prime Nikkor 300 is rather appealing.

with a 1.4 TC to keep AF and a 2x with MF runing at 600mm x sensor would be quite nice

The Nikon 300mm f/4 and the Sigma 100-300mm f/4 was what I was looking at too...

I decided on the 100-300mm f/4, for the conveniance of the zoom, plus it was only £500 delivered from my favourite Hong Kong eBay shop:D I will add a 1.4 TC later, but I can't wait for Monday, when it's due to be delivered!!!

You won't be dissapointed by the Nikon 300mm f/4 though, it's a cracking lens.

i have got the 300f4 nikon afs and loving it struggling to hand hold but thats just me

I asked a similar question recently and am undecided as to wether the 300 f4 is worth the extra money over my 80-400.

At 300, the 80-400 is 5.3.So whilst being slightly faster, is it any sharper? Still undecided, so i`ll probably buy it probably.............
