Nikon 300mm f/2.8D AF-S versus Sigma 120-300?

Has anyone shot with both, I'd be interested in whether the Nikon is worth the extra £600 or so secondhand.....

I've used the Nikon 300 2.8 VR (don't use the VR for my shooting) and the Sigma 120-300, the Nikon is in a different league, especially in poor light, and stopped down to 2.8

Nothing wrong with the Sigma, but to get the best out of it it, I found it likes good light.

Where the Nikon is spot on all the time.

The Sigma was used on a Canon though

The Nikon is Heavier

I don't think the VR would be an issue as I'd be using either on a monopod. I'd be using it for the bike racing at Knockhill, where "bad light" is what we call summer.....

Nikon will be razor sharp at f2.8, the Sigma not until f4, if you can afford it get the Nikon, if you cant, save a bit longer and get the Nikon.
