Nikon 28-300 VR lens

Hi advice please.
I'm looking at buying a 28-300VR lens, after searching on the web I found mixed reviews so I'm hoping I can get a better review on here.

Can anyone tell me briefly the good and bad points, the lens is just inside my budget. I read that it is slow on autofocus. At present I have a 20mm prime lens, 18-105VR & 55-200VR, I'm thinking if the lens proves a better option I can sell my 55-200VR & 15-55VR which came with the camera.

what camera do you have ? I think I would sell the 18-105 & 55-200 , get the 28-300mm and a 50mm f1.4 for low light sweetness.

I have D5000 but I'm buying the D7000 in December. Waiting to see if any better deals are around for xmas

the 28-300 is an fx lens, surely you are paying the premium for an fx lens. Wouldn't you be better with an 18-200?

That would be my advice. Go for the 18-200mm. Id rather have the extra range at the wide end than the zoom end. Not only that but the 18-200mm is made for DX.

I agree, with DX go for the 18-200 it's a great walk around lens. I used to use one on a D300 and was very impressed with it, the 28-300 is made for FX.
