I've been trying to use my new lens in manual mode trying to use hyperfocal distance. The problem I'm getting is when I take the lock off and change the aperture from the min of f22, I get an error message on my D800 fEE. If I reset the aperture ring back to f22 the lens works fine in autofocus mode. Just want to be able to use hyper focal distance especially shooting nightscapes.
Appreicate any feedback.

FEE is the standard error code for lenses with apertures on the lens them selves. You need to lock it into the highest and use the camera to control the aperture.

How this works using the DOF scale on the lens, I don't know, can't you just use hyper focal using the camera to set the aperture and use a chart to if d the correct focal distance?

Camera is in manual mode and I also set the aperture on the camera to match.
My understanding to use HFD, you set on the lens the aperture, (which it's only allowing me to set at f22) and then change your distance scale to match the aperture or to infinity. Unless I've got this completely wrong, but looking at youtube thats what seems to be the norm as well as using the tables for the camera and associated focal length.

Adrian.. on a modern Nikon, you leave the aperture set to F22 or whatever is the maximum f stop. You then set the aperture on the body.

You can still use the hyperfocal markings on the lens barrel without physically having to move the aperture ring. For example... lets say F22 is marked in red.... you can still set infinity to the red marking regardless of where the aperture ring is set... it will still stop down to f22 regardless.
