Nikon 200mm f2

Last time I was in The Camera Store in Calgary, Alberta, Canada had one. Might be worth seeing if it is still there.

EDIT: Should have read the entire post. Sorry.

Lol had to colin! It seemed like a good deal- matt at misfuds said it's only 10 months old comes with it's case and box and other gubbings! Managed to get 50 quid off and p&p chucked in for nowt (hope it's still insured!!) !! With any luck should have it tues/wed - can't wait!

Superb

Ooh, my ears are burning.

We generally buy what people ask for. (Within reason, and if we can afford it.) The number of people who have asked us for the Nikon 200mm f/2 is .... none.

I've asked you twice :p

Pete

Ah crap..............I do believe I would like one as well.

Should have it tomorrow Colin ;) Luckily my other Camerbag turned up today which should see the Lens clear Wife Customs with any luck!

In all seriousness if you want to try it out on a wedding please let me know as I'm happy for you to borrow it as long as it's covered under your Insurance?!

@ Northern Nikon - I'm excited about seeing these rewards!! Got a shoot this Sat so will hopefully have a proper play then although it might jump out of it;s case tomorrow depending on when it turns up!!

It's on my wish list for this year, I was going to go for the 300mm f/2.8 but I'll get more use out of the 200mm at weddings and I can add a TC if needed for the equine work.

I hate you ........

but combined with the NEW 2x teleconvertor - it would be an awesome combination

I really must work out a way to fess up to the wife about my 200mm. I'd be able to use it far more if I did. :bang:

Ooh, interesting. Although at £450 there would have to ber a significant improvement over the TC-20E II.

Only time will tell how good it is when it's in people's hands. I'm kind of hoping it is very good. I think a 200/2 with 2x would be a nice replacement for the Sigma 300/2.8+1.4x I have now, and easy to slip under the radar ;)

Lol, I'll just use the old addage of I'm selling to cover costs which is in part true of course ;) ! Usually works although I think she's wisening up to the cost of photography bits and pieces!

Is it there yet?

It has arrived.…… in the words of janice from friends… oh........my........god!!

1. It's bloody heavy, I will need to get back down the gym in preparation for my shoot on sat- handholding this sucker is going to be one helluva laugh! Monopod wil be essential I think!

2. The hood is insane and put onto the lens makes the thing look like a bazzoka! Should be fun amongst a crowd!!

3. First impressions are it looks like a 17-55 dx lens that has been on steroids for 20 years!

4. It's not particularly long just fat! Does anyone know if you can get a filter for this lens?!

Had to leave it at work so can't play tonight but might take my camera in tommorrow and have a play then!

More to come …

Youshouldn't need a filter as it should have come with a protective meniscus element screwed on the front

The polariser is the C-PL3L and I believe it is unique to the 200 f2 as it fits a a narrow part of the body, the C-PL1L doesn't fit the 200 as it is designed to fit the 400, 600 (pos the 300 / 500, but I have no experience of fitting one in those lenses) at a much wider part of the body.
As for the front element, that should be a protective, flat, "doesn't do anything" filter anyway, and not part of the complex optics. See -
http://www.europe-nikon.com/en_GB/p...nav2Param=0&Subnav3Param=0&RunQuery=l2&ID=637 (go to "product views" and the pic on the right shows what I mean.)
so in efect it is a protective filter that is "relatively" easy / cheap to replace.

Oh and one final thing..............have fun!!

I tried the TC-20E II with my 200 F2 and wasn't impressed - so the TC went back. I'm eagerly waiting to see if the new TC-20E III is better. In which case I'll have a handy 400 F4 VR. Not that I'm much into wildlife but it'll be fun I'm sure.

In the meantime I use my 200 for this type of thing:-

If you can get one you will love it - but it's not an everyday lens. It's heavy and at 200mm you need a bit of room to work with. A lot of the Nikon Cafe guys use it for street photography for some reason. Personally I think it comes into it's own with portraits - the bokeh is so good!! I like the versatility of putting a TC on it and using it for totally different purposes (animals etc).

Agreed, I have never had a 2x TC either Nikon or Canon, that has come up with the results. The 1.7 from Nikon works well, and I am holding out to see what the TC-2E III results are like before buying a fast 400mm.

I gave up with the 2x on my 400, and get on much better with the 1.7x. I miss the length though, so I am planning on trying the new 2x. :)

Sush!!!! It'll be bought home tomorrow! and kept in the secret place! hehe;)

Tell her, maybe it will go well:

U: Wife, I purchased a new lens for my camera system. I feel it will assist...

W: You did what! How much did it cost?

U: Let me finish. I feel...

W: Your gonna feel a black eye if you don't tell me how much it cost!

U: *Thinks: Screw it* It cost a few thousands.

W: MMmmm, well, you just signed your death wish. How are you gonna afford it?

U: By taking you on a 14 day all inclusive spa holiday in the Bahamas next year.

It's written in my will.

Was dead chuffed on the condition - the only thing it didn't have was the original box not that that really matters!

I need to grab more piccies with it but took it out for the first time last week

I also bought one from there a couple of days ago, but in my case I am returning it. It's a great lens, but not in good condition unfortunatley. Lots of little chips on it, but the more concerning one was where the plate with the serial number on it is, and the controls to the left of the plate, there's obviously been big impact damages there.

The plate has a big score (deeper than a scratch) in it and where the control panel (for want of a better description) meets the lens barrel, just to the left of the Serial number plate, there's a deep score there too, about an inch long, where it's gone right through the back surface and is back to metal.

So unfortunately I have packaged it up and am sending it back this weekend. :'(:'(:'(

Sorry to hear that mate!! Keep hunting though :) - If they get another in make sure you ask for free shipping and money off/their best price ;) Can I ask how much they charged you for it given the condition?

Pretty sure same price as you :D:D:D

£2349.

Free delivery though.

I loved the lens but at the end of the day resale value is king. I'm sure they will get someone to buy it, but it's not for me at that price. If they'd offered me a discount I may have kept it, but I guess they've got to watch their profit margins.

I've dealt with them a number of times before and they've been absolutely fine.

Lusting since I saw Hacker's link to that strobist 365. The brokeh is very special.

You reckon they are more readily available 2nd hand in Japan? Heading out there later this year and visiting Akihabara district for some bargains if the exchange rate improves.
