Nikon 200-500 on D610?

Hi all

Getting a bit of an itch to dive in and get this telephoto lens to delve into wildlife/birds and also shots of my lad playing football. Im after any advice/pitfalls regards pairing up with the D610 as I know you would get a lot more reach on a crop sensor and the focus points a rather bunched together on the D610 but not considering an extra body. Would it be worth the investment and would the results be worth it. Also not really wanting to invest in a teleconverter to extend the reach.

No, Russell, the expected reach is not real.

I would go for the lens because it would permit you to be al-
most anywhere and the zoom will give the needed flexibility.

500mm on an FX camera body is very useful but on your D610 you could, (if you wish), set it to DX crop mode and have a pseudo greater reach using 10mp and a better spread of the AF points which are more centrally located on the D610.

the 20-500 is an excellent lens you will not be disappointed with the results
only down side it is a heavy beast to carry all day
