Nikon 18-70MM DX

LOL.....I droppped mine at LCE for £20...both caps and like new. Sorry:lol:
LCE wouldnt be the best place to drop it off at, but I couldnt be bothered.

You might get a tenner or so on top of that price.

I bought the 18-70 from Graham for 85, and I reckon it is 20 quid better than the kit 18-55 (!?), just the buod will make it so, never mind the focal length/IQ (?)

Maybe just keep the 18-55 as a spare even as it wont be much s/h:shrug:

Try fleabay, there doesnt appear to be a shortage of things going for stupid prices, people just think they are getting a bargain there it would seem

6 months back I wanted a 35mm 1.8, new it is what, £160ish. Got it from Jessops (new) for a price of 150 which at the time was good, and they were actually a tenner cheaper than Amazon.
The night before I started bidding on one on FleaBay(tm)....stopped at £110 i think didnt see the point in going more, 30 minutes later it sold for £200...the dearest I could find online new was about £185!!??:bang::lol: Sums that place up at times (IMO) - people lose reality.

Glad you like it Craig. Must admit I agree with you in that the 18-55 lens really isn't a bad lens at all in terms of ultimate IQ. Where the 18-70 scores strongly is that it at least matches that IQ, adds a bit of length at the same time as increasing max aperture and is built to a far higher standard. There's not a lot not to like for the sort of price they sell for.

Very happy with it, Graham.
My missus saw it on the camera for the first time earlier and said 'that doesnt look cheap' :) so its passed my quality control system :)
Next purchase will be a flash methinks....and enter a whole new world of fun!
Thanks again.

Arrr, I thought I might be getting myself at it a bit

Oh well, I might just keep it anyways. Or pop it on Gumtree.

Won't go near Ebay - not my thing. :nono:

I got one with my D200 and have never let it go, its as sharp as my 24-70! if you don't need low f-stops its great

Using the 50mm and the 18-70 the IQ is awesome on the 18-70 considering what it is. Read a bit about it before buying and lots of people and reviews were saying how great a lens it is.

I have to agree. Feels like a real expensive lens and built solidly.

Like Snappyhappy, i will still keep my prime for in the house etc. 18-70 is a great all round lens.

Maybe we should have a dedicated 18-70 forum!! lol

You have got me at it now! Only had the d5100 a few weeks but am already scouring ebay for the 18-70. Getting married in a couple of months so can't really justify £150 for the 35mm but if i could snaffle a £70-£85 18-70 then I wouldn't feel so bad and more importantly I wouldn't have to lie about the price lol. Off to ebay we go!

Speedy, you are learning mate - with marriage comes lying about photography equipment :) :)

Been using it for the kids around the house today (yes we do get up that early :( ) - quite refreshing going wider than 35mm. I hadnt been using my 18-55 very much either. Hmmm they do have that new 28mm prime lol better not....

Once you have the 18-70 and realise how good it is compared to some then you know you have a cracking lens!

Got a few in my watch list on ebay as we speak. If the prices creep up to high and are going for the same as the 35mm then I might go for the 35mm first but I really do like what I have heard about the 18-70 and it would be a good replacement for the kit lens. Secret is holding off till a good deal comes up!
