nikon 18-135 query

Hi Folks,
Iv'e just bought a used nikon 18-135 from a local retailer, the manual focusing ring goes round continuously, although it does focus manually, is this right? Also shoudn't the manual focus ring lock when in auto?
I dont want to take it back if this is ok

Mine goes round constantly, but you can feel it when it gets to the end of the focusing range (don't know correct term for this ). It kinda locks, but will keep turning although its slightly stiffer.

It won't lock in AF, as it allows for you to make manual adjustments after the camera has AF'd it for you.

as above. im pretty sure you'll 'feel' the end of the zoom (ie just after infinity and at the minimum distance) but it should continue to move

and yep, not locking in af is what is correct, and its a good thing!

OK Guys, thank you very much, just waiting for a used 70-300ed to appear now (I can neither afford or justify a VR version, as much as I would like one)
