Looking for opinions on the Nikon 18-105 VR lens for my D300:help::bang::bonk:

Isn't this the one that come as standard with the D90? There's a review in one of the mags this (maybe last) month (can't remember which one). IIRC they liked it apart from the plasticky feel. A good bundled lens they said.

Its bundled with the D90, so hopefully it would match optically with the D300 too.

These seem to come up quite a lot for sale, people rip them from D90 kits, not sure what they replace them with, 16-85 VR or Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 maybe..?

Looking for opinions on the Nikon 18-105 VR lens for my D300:help::bang::bonk:
HELLO Mervyn, I too am interested in the new nikon 18-105, I've seen one
in our local Jessops c/p on the D90, I think if I talk nicely to the sales staff
they might let me give it a go on my D80, I've read the KEN ROCKWELL reviews
and it seems to me that he trashes all nikon lenses except the 18-200, which he seems to have a thing about.
I did try that one myself and did,nt like it, heavy, not very sharp anywhere
and zoom creep was an absolute pain in the butt. if I get to try the 18-105
I'll post my opinions to you, I've been taking photos for over 40 years and it was part of my work before I retired.
all the best, Jim.

Thanks jim. My local jessops sell it for £169 and will have it in a few days. Warehouse Express a few pounds cheaper but afte postage not much differenceWill decide at that stage whether to buy:clap::wave::thumbs:

Hi Mervyn, Thanks for letting me know about the 18-105 lens, I'm suprised
you can get hold of it for £169 I've checked up on the Jessops web site and
been into our local store and they quote me £199.99 and the same from ordering of the web, can you get most things cheaper in Ireland?.
Would you be so kind as to let me know your findings of the lens when you have tried it.

Hi Jim
The lens is coming from Jessops England. As I am in the 'Black North' it's all part of the UK and prices are the same as yours. Warehouse Express in Norwich are £159 but Amazon £199 with a second hand one at £179!! Unfortunately posting across the Irish Sea is anything from £4-14. Dearest stretch of water in the world
Should have it next week and will let you have verdict. MERVYN:clap::thumbs:

Hi Mervyn, I believe you have sent me a message regarding the 18-105
you were getting, I'm sorry to say my pc won't let me open it, I've told it
not to block this site and tried always to get round it with no avail, if I include
my own email address in this way if you agree, you could email me directly
and let me know your findings, Hope you have had a good xmas and a happy new year to you and your family. Jim Barr.

HI Mervyn, Was wondering if you have got your 18-105 yet, seem to got
the problem with the replys sorted now, so would be interested to to hear from you. I'm considering a dedicated flashgun for my D80 I understand the new nikon SB900 is very good but can be a bit complicated in some aspects, also
Metz seem to be well regarded, I have one of the old hammerhead metz
with a separate battery pack, the flash is fantastic, but the down side is non-dedication and the battery is on it's way out and is heavy and awkward
to lug around, as a new battery is about 80 quid I did'nt think I'd replace it
but go for something more up to date.

Hi Mervyn and Sussex Blue, Decided to go ahead and get the nikon 18-105 lens
had a try of one beforehand and liked it, got mine from Park Cameras as you
mention, Have done some tests, all focal lengths, and various F stops, daylight
which we have,nt got much of at the moment! and flash, seems to give good
results to me, and the main thing is the VR which I find a big help, it's nice and
neat on my D80 and the zoom ring is easy to use being broader than a lot, some
are not easy to keep hold of. I know there is no distance scale, but does it
really matter as long as you can zoom onto the subject you are looking at ok
and get the result you want? I don't think so myself, anyhow thats my opinion
for what it's worth.
