Recently made the upgrade from Sigma 70-200 to nikon 70-200 and was totally blown away by the quality of the nikon colour, sharpness etc etc.

Now i`m considering changing my Sigma 17-70 to the nikon 17-55, however i have what i would call a good copy of the sigma and find it to be very sharp indeed so wondering if i would be blown away again in terms of colour and sharpness?

Difficult decision to make really, any advice or anyone done this swap? sample pics from a nikon would be good.

P.S wouldn`t be anyone from cornwall who has a nikon 17-55 that i could try?;)

I've not used your current lens, so don't know what you might expect in terms of IQ changing from the Sigma to the Nikkor. I've shot the 17-55 f2.8 for a couple of years now and am very pleased with it, though it can be a bit quirky. It has a learning curve, at least for me.

I bought mine new, and tend to buy new, but I believe you can pick up an excellent used for for a reasonable price. It probably wouldn't cost you too much over what you could sell/trade your Sigma for. Just a thought.

The Nikon 17-55 f2.8 will blow you away in turn of build quality, feel and optic. I'm not saying the sigma is bad but the nikon is just different class.

It's hard to make the comparison you're after, having not owned the sigma myself. I have however owned the Nikon in question, and it was nothing short of excellent. Only reason I sold it was because I moved to FX, otherwise I'd never have seen constant use.

I am also looking to buy one of these lenses. I have the Sigma 18-50 f2.8, its a nice wee lens but having used my daughters Nikon 17-55, no comparison. Funnily though, I wasn't quite so happy with the Nikon 24-70, thought it shot a wee bit soft.
